Itinerary Disclaimer
The itinerary attached is correct at the time of printing. However please note that occasionally our itineraries are updated during the year to incorporate improvements stemming from past travellers' comments and our own research. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you print and review a final copy of your Trip Details a couple of days prior to your trip, in case there have been changes that affect your plans.
Detailed Itinerary
Day1: Wadi Waleh (Canyoning: hiking, bouldering and swimming)
We'll meet up in the morning in Amman and drive to Madaba for a quick briefing by our team member. We'll then head south towards Al Hidan to catch the trailhead at Al Waleh, start our 6 to 7 hour hike until we reach the trail end by a little water spring where we'll rest for a little while before heading back to Madaba and further to Amman.
The hike goes through a black basalt gorge and includes swimming crossing several elongated pools- the longest pool is around 60-meter-long. Mid-way, we'll be stopping for a lunch break beside one round pool- jumping from up to 4 meters is possible here- before we proceed on our route crossing more pools and small boulders. To reach the trail end, we have a climb (walking uphill) for about 45 minutes - 120 meter vertical distance- following a shepard's trail until we reach a little water spring where we'll meet our bus and return.
To assist you cross the pools safely, we usually provide air tubes and use then to transfer your bags without getting them wet. However, cameras and such must be kept in a water proof bag during crossing of pools.

Wadi Al Waleh: A striking deep gorge formed of black basalt and sandstone. It is located between Madaba and Karak and contains groves of grapes and citrus and is abundant with majestic elongated pools where you often swim than walk!
To give you more geographical insight; the Waleh canyon continues south west as Wadi Al Hidan which meets the famous Wadi Mujib at Al Malagi. The Mujib then proceeds west to reach the Dead Sea.

We also advise all our guests to consult their doctor beforehand. Group leaders reserve the right to exclude any guest from a trip whom they believe may be an unjustifiable risk to themselves or to the rest of the group without refund.

> Hiking shoes are the most important. Although we recommend wearing proper hiking shoes, in case you don’t have a pair please make sure you wear something comfortable that doesn’t cause blisters and wouldn't breakdown whilst hiking in rough terrain and water.
> Sandals are a no no.
> Light clothes; long sleeves and light colours are advisable in summer time

> Swimming suit (it is actually best to wear a swimming shorts throughout the canyon as you have a lot of swimming)
> Sun protection lotion
> Insect repellent

Your Fellow Travellers
As you travel on a group trip you will be exposed to all the pleasures and maybe some of the frustrations of travelling in a group. Your fellow travellers will probably come from all corners of the world and likely a range of age groups too. We ask you to be understanding of the various needs and preferences of your group - patience with your fellow travellers is sometimes required for the benefit of everyone's travel experience. Remember too that you have responsibilities to the group. If you are requested to be at a place at a certain time, ensure that you don't keep the rest of the group waiting. We have found time and time again that the very best trips we operate are those where the dynamics within the group work well - this takes just a little effort on your part.
Group Leader
All our tour leaders have good knowledge of the local communities and terrain of the areas you will be visiting. We also make sure that they are properly trained in any specialised activities they may administer i.e. hiking, cycling, abseiling, etc.
Responsible Travel
We believe strongly in low impact or rather positive impact tourism. Broadly speaking this means that we try to minimise the negative aspects of tourism on the local cultures and environments that we visit and highlight the positive aspects. Jordan is a small country with little natural resources. Water scarcity is a big issue in the region so make sure you adapt a conservative attitude towards water consumption. Along the trip your tour leader will highlight such issues.
Terhaal plans its operations in a way that maximises benefits for local communities; whenever we can, we hire staff locally in the areas where we operate, our guests stay in locally owned hotels and we attempt to organise our holidays around volunteering activities such helping farmers to harvest their apples, olives etc, and the like. Terhaal also contributes towards efforts that strengthen environmental advocacy and environmental education for children.
A Couple of Rules
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on our trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and in particular the local people who make your destinations such special places. Our group leader has the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession.
Consuming alcohol or being under its influence during our hiking activities will not be tolerated.
