Detailed Itinerary
Daytrip: Wadi Mukheiris - lower trail (Canyoning: hiking and a visit to the Dead Sea exhibition)
We'll meet up early in the morning in Amman, drive to Madaba and descend to the trailhead next to the village of Swaima at the Dead Sea. After a quick breifing by our team member we'll start our two-way-route hike starting and ending at the Dead Sea road.
The hiking trail is 5km long and takes about 6-7 hours to be completed (including resting time and a lunch break). We will start hiking upstream through a wide canyon that consists of two waterfalls. It takes about 50 min to reach the first waterfall (5m high). As we bypass the waterfall a delightful series of cascades and ponds begins. The route then takes us through huge boulders. A charming 20m waterfall dropping into a little pool is hidden behind tree branches. There we'll enjoy a cool shower, and a lunch break before heading back on the same route (descending). The way back offers spectacular views of the Dead Sea.
After you finish hiking the Wadi, a 25 minute drive takes us to the Dead Sea Panorama Complex for an educational visit to the Dead Sea exhibition, where you can learn more about the Dead Sea region, its unique characteristics, its mysteries, and more importantly about the environmental challenges it is facing. You will also enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the Dead Sea and the West bank.
This daytrip would take between 10 to 11 hours.

Health
It is recommended that all travellers be in good physical health prior to embarking on a Terhaal trip as all our packages are active/adventure holidays. We also advise all our guests to consult their doctor beforehand. Group leaders reserve the right to exclude any guest from a trip whom they believe may be an unjustifiable risk to themselves or to the rest of the group without refund.

> Backpack to carry your personal needs during the trip (the type with a lower-back pad support and waist strap are recommended), remember you need to carry your own lunch box, 3 liters of water, etc.
> Hiking shoes are the most important (expect wet shoes along the trail). Although we recommend wearing proper hiking shoes, in case you don’t have a pair please make sure you wear something comfortable that doesn’t cause blisters and wouldn't breakdown whilst hiking in rough terrain and water.
> Sandals are a no no for hiking but they could be handy during the rest at the waterfall.
> Light clothes; long sleeves and light colours are advisable in summer time
> A hat or head dress that also covers the neck
> Swimming suit (you may want to wear underneath your clothes)
> Sun protection lotion
> Insect repellent
> Dates, fruits, or candy bars to provide instant calories during hiking. Chocolate will melt!
> Water proof plastic bags (with sealing strap) to keep your valuable stuff dry while crossing pools and so on
Local Dress
When packing be aware that dress standards are conservative throughout Jordan. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot climate.

Your Fellow Travellers
As you travel on a group trip you will be exposed to all the pleasures and maybe some of the frustrations of travelling in a group. Your fellow travellers will probably come from all corners of the world and likely a range of age groups too. We ask you to be understanding of the various needs and preferences of your group - patience with your fellow travellers is sometimes required for the benefit of everyone's travel experience. Remember too that you have responsibilities to the group. If you are requested to be at a place at a certain time, ensure that you don't keep the rest of the group waiting. We have found time and time again that the very best trips we operate are those where the dynamics within the group work well - this takes just a little effort on your part.
Group Leader
All our tour leaders have good knowledge of the local communities and terrain of the areas you will be visiting. We also make sure that they are properly trained in any specialised activities they may administer i.e. hiking, cycling, abseiling, etc.
Responsible Travel
We believe strongly in low impact or rather positive impact tourism. Broadly speaking this means that we try to minimise the negative aspects of tourism on the local cultures and environments that we visit and highlight the positive aspects. Jordan is a small country with little natural resources. Water scarcity is a big issue in the region so make sure you adapt a conservative attitude towards water consumption. Along the trip your tour leader will highlight such issues.
Terhaal plans its operations in a way that maximises benefits for local communities; whenever we can, we hire staff locally in the areas where we operate, our guests stay in locally owned hotels and we attempt to organise our holidays around volunteering activities such helping farmers to harvest their apples, olives etc, and the like. Terhaal also contributes towards efforts that strengthen environmental advocacy and environmental education for children.
A Couple of Rules
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on our trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and in particular the local people who make your destinations such special places. Our group leader has the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession.
Consuming alcohol or being under its influence during our hiking activities will not be tolerated.
